Marriage License

The below lets you know what's needed in order to obtain your marriage license in North or South Carolina prior to the ceremony.

North Carolina

You must apply for your marriage license at the NC Register of Deeds office in the county in which your wedding will take place. The license is issued immediately. It is valid up to 60 days. There is no state residency requirement and you do not need blood tests. You must be 18 years of age or older and both of you must appear in person to obtain the license.

South Carolina

Since SC has a 24-hour waiting period, I recommend you get your license a week or so in advance of your ceremony date since there is no expiration date. If you have short notice for your ceremony, you can ask the clerk when the license will be available for you to pickup. The judge who signs and issues your license may be unable to issue the license on  day-of application. You may get your license in any county.

Details vary by State and County, so please check with your local office before visiting. They will be able to tell you what documents will be needed to obtain your license.
